MERU
MERU is a screen-free meditation system designed to reduce digital distractions and encourage focused mindfulness.
Rather than relying on apps, users insert NFC cards representing different meditation themes and durations to activate guided audio, natural soundscapes, and a gentle breathing light. This simple interaction creates an accessible meditation experience free from notifications and network dependency.
Inspired by Mount Meru, a symbol of balance and energy, the device features organic forms that evoke natural landscapes. Canyon-like grooves allow NFC cards to be inserted from any angle, while the ergonomic shape fits comfortably in the hand. A cork card holder keeps the cards organised and visible, and a pebble-inspired control allows intuitive volume adjustment and playback without looking at the device.
Sustainability is integral to the design. Constructed from recycled plastics and natural cork, MERU is designed for durability, repair, and easy disassembly. Its offline, low-energy NFC system reduces energy consumption and eliminates cloud dependency. By combining tactile interaction, natural materials, and mindful technology, MERU offers a calm, sustainable approach to daily meditation.
